RE: Walking on Roof

I've talked to a couple of people that have toured the factory were our 5er was assembled. They told me they witnessed at least 4 people at the same time working on the roof.
Good enough for them, good enough for me!

Jt's here also! Can't beat them.
I've read on several forums where people that install the JT's are giving their King Pin Tripod's away FREE!

RE: Satellite's

hello all,
i am new to the satellite tv world. we use cable at home but would like satellite in our fifth wheel. can someone tell me how to start? must i have a satellite in my home? or can i subscribe just for my rv?
what do i need for a connection? dish, tripod, cable and receiver? plus the monthly subscription.
any suggestions / information is much appreciated.
do a search. just give dish/direct a call and tell them you want service. I would buy a receiver/dish myself, not rent one of theirs.
bumpy
Direct was mentioned.

RE: How far off level can you be and run the fridge?

The source of power is electric or propane, this is not what keeps your refrig. cold. The refrigerant that runs through your refrig.plumbing needs to stay level or it will burn a hole through your plumbing if it stays too long in one spot.

RE: Truck Tires or Trailer Tires ? ?

I almost purchased a set of Ribs for my 3400 but realized their only rated at 3020 lbs of pressure, not good since my trailer empty weighs almost 12000 lbs.
not much room for anymore weight. The stock tires are rated at 3570 lbs but their made in China,Iam now looking at Goodyear G614's rated over 3700 lbs and made in USA.

RE: another tire issue

Jack:
Same as I took off 235/85R16 E-Rated. The michelin had to be 7 or 8 pounds heavier than the GY's that came off. Clearance's between tires stayed about the same
Great! Thanks for the info. Will.

RE: another tire issue

Just got my Michelin XPS Ribs install this morning. Man are they heavy!!! Now I can take off with confidence that I won't have anymore blowouts. The old GY Wranglers were originl and one had already blown out taking the skirting with it before i go the trailer. I also got $120 bucks for the old tires from a farmer to put on his farm truck. Not a bad deal.
Will,What size did you end up putting on?

RE: another tire issue

I just purchased a new 5er 2 months ago and will be taken our first trip in April. My 5er has Chinese tires on it and I will not use the trailer until I change over to Michelin Ribs.I've read too many horror stories and will not jeopardize our trailer and especially my family, its worth the extra money to have ease of mind.
You're right on, SweetLou!

RE: Dave Ramsey says owning a RV is STUPID!

If you are debt free and are not dependent or will not be come dependent on getting a government check then you have no reason to know Dave Ramsey.
He is simple. You can either Pay then Play or Play then Pay but you can not do both at the same time.
I think all of us know and understand if we are paying interest on an RV we are most likely financially acting in a "stupid" manner.
Just today I was talking with a guy with a nice pop up (twin axles for what that is worth) for sale that is 15 years and he will take $1500 so I guess most any pick-up would pull something like that so RV'ing does not take a lot of cash to get started.
Seldom do we change our financial position for the better after the age of 50. Being in debt at age fifty for things other than one's home or business can often lead to being in debt after retirement. Dave's position is just to Pay now so you can Play later with the Paying behind us.
I expect Dave could buy most any RV and pay cash due to him acting upon the financial advice he now offers others. He is talking to the ones that owe $10K to $100K+ on credit cards today and I am sure no one posting on rv.net would be that financially stupid to be caught in the credit card trap. He does offer value to those with credit card debt and actually follow his advice.
Well said Gale!

RE: In Bed Fuel Tank

Anyone ever add an aux tank to a gas truck...my tank is only 21 gallons and at 10mpg = about 190 miles between safe fillups...on 1000 mile trips that bugs me. 20 to 40 extra gallons would be great...and if I do the math right even at 40 gallons with me, the wife, dogs, gear + hitch I'm still under my payload max by 150-200lbs.
Check your state,I know in California it's illegal to run an aux. gas tank in p/u bed.

RE: neighbors dog is digging!

I don't know why it works but it does. Bury the dog's own poop in the hole. He won't dig in that spot again.

RE: LCD flat screen TV install ?

I just put a 32 lcd in my 02 southwind. As dbbls says heat could be a problem. I left vent slots at the top of mine and will install a 6" silent thermal fan as soon as it arrives. A lot of work but do-able and worth the picture improvement.
If you notice, no vents and there are no fans behind the tv.
This a 32" flat screen in a 5th wheel trailer. The three black squares are speakers.Vent below is for fireplace.

RE: Transporting Big Dogs

What's wrong with the floor? My last dog ( an 85 pound Lab) was perfectly comfortable on the floor. In the front seat when it was just the two of us and in the back of an extended cab Chevy when the DW was along. The safest place for your pet is on the floor, so why would people put them up high on some sort of platform that can become dislodged in an accident?
The safest place for your pet is NOT the floor, as there is no way to seat belt it in. Additionally, in most vehicles today, there isn't room for anything larger than a chihuahua on the floor. Creating an extension of the seat does not put the dog "up high," it puts the dog in the area that is designed and tested for passenger safety, and allows the dog to be harnessed and tethered for safety.
OK, for arguments sake lets say you are correct. How do you secure this platform? How many people out there actually attach their pets to a seat belt? I am not trying to start am argument here, but anything that is up off the floor and not securely attached to a structural member of a vehicle can become a deadly missal in an accident.
Wouldn't the two dogs become a missile before the platform does?
